About Polyvinyl alcohol
Name:Poly(vinyl alcohol)
Synonyms:PVA
Molecular Formula:(C2H4O)n
CAS Registry Number:9002-89-5
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH, PVA, or PVAL) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer (not to be confused with polyvinyl acetate, a popular wood glue). Polyvinyl alcohol has excellent film forming, emulsifying, and adhesive properties. It is also resistant to oil, grease and solvent. It is odorless and nontoxic. It has high tensile strength and flexibility, as well as high oxygen and aroma barrier properties. However these properties are dependent on humidity, in other words, with higher humidity more water is absorbed. The water, which acts as a plasticiser, will then reduce its tensile strength, but increase its elongation and tear strength. PVA is fully degradable and is a quick dissolver.

Exceptional Solubility and Versatile ApplicationPolyvinyl alcohols excellent water solubility, combined with its stability and purity, enables its use in a wide range of industrial processes. Its application spans textile sizing, adhesives manufacturing, paper coating, and emulsification, making it a reliable solution for diverse operational needs.
Secure and Practical Packaging OptionsAvailable in 25 kg or 50 kg packs, PVA is supplied in sealed plastic or paper bags featuring inner liners for maximum protection. This packaging ensures the polymer remains moisture free and maintains its integrity throughout storage and transport.
FAQs of Polyvinyl alcohol :
Q: How is polyvinyl alcohol typically used in textile and adhesive industries?
A: Polyvinyl alcohol is widely used in textile sizing to enhance fiber strength and reduce breakage during weaving. In adhesive manufacturing, it serves as a key binding agent, offering strong adhesion and film-forming capabilities.
Q: What is the recommended process for dissolving polyvinyl alcohol powder or granules?
A: To dissolve PVA, gradually add the powder or granules to water while stirring. Heating the mixture to approximately 8090C will ensure complete dissolution and produce a smooth, clear solution suitable for industrial use.
Q: When should polyvinyl alcohol be replaced or discarded?
A: Polyvinyl alcohol should be used within its 2-year shelf life for optimal performance. If the product absorbs moisture, develops lumps, or passes its expiration date, it is advisable to replace it to maintain quality in your applications.
Q: Where is polyvinyl alcohol manufactured and exported from?
A: This polyvinyl alcohol is manufactured, supplied, and exported from China, ensuring high-quality standards and reliable supply chains for global industrial markets.
Q: What are the benefits of choosing polyvinyl alcohol with less than 6% moisture content and nil fat or protein?
A: A moisture content below 6% and absence of fat or protein ensure PVAs long shelf life and high purity. This leads to better process predictability, product consistency, and minimizes the risk of microbial growth during storage.
Q: What are the available packaging options for polyvinyl alcohol?
A: Polyvinyl alcohol is offered in 25 kg and 50 kg packs utilizing either plastic or paper bags with inner liners, all of which are securely sealed. This variety in packaging helps accommodate different handling and storage requirements.
Q: How does the synthetic and odorless nature of polyvinyl alcohol benefit industrial applications?
A: Being completely synthetic and odorless, polyvinyl alcohol does not impart any unwanted scents or contaminants to products, which is particularly important for applications in adhesives, textiles, and paper coatings that demand high purity.
